3 Simple Steps to Have Healthy Hair

January 31, 2023

Tell me I'm not only one on the side of legging-curl tik tok? I've watched an embarrassing amount of videos of girls wrapping their hair in leggings. I love that the topic of hair health is on the rise right now! So many of you have "healthy hair" on your 2023 vision boards and I'm here for it! It can also be very overwhelming so let's start with the issues I see most.

Focus on Your Scalp

So many times we are so focused on the ends of our hair and if it's growing or not that we forget about our scalp!! Here are a few ways to move towards a healthier scalp.

  1. Shampoo twice.

The first shampoo will remove product buildup & environmental debris and the second shampoo will cleanse the scalp. Don't be afraid of a third or fourth shampoo if you are going long in between washes. You might also try this shampoo massage brush that will help get a deep clean.

Shampoo recommendations:

If you are wanting moisture try Unite 7 seconds Shampoo and Conditioner.

If you are wanting volume try Unite Boosta Shampoo and Conditioner.

When you experience major buildup and have a hard time getting your hair clean try Unite weekender shampoo. This is a clarifying shampoo that is not to be used every wash.

  1. Use dry shampoo sparingly.

Using too much dry shampoo prevents our natural oils from spreading throughout the rest of our hair. This can cause our ends to become brittle. On the first day that you really want to use dry shampoo, do a little tease at the root to get the hair up off the scalp!

Messy Bun

I know you're all going to come at me for this one. Your messy bun has an expiration date!! Never wear your for more than 12 hours. Before you go to bed and when you wake up make sure to take your hair down and put oil on the ends. You then want to give it a good brush and put it back up if needed. When your hair is up in a messy bun, your ends have tension on them the whole time which can eventually cause breakage. Never put your hair in a bun when your hair is wet, and be gentle taking it out! Every time you're tempted to yank it out just think of me!

Hair tie Recommendations:

If you follow me on instagram I talk about these hair ties so often! You can customize based on your hair type. I love the long hair ties for ponies and the fine hair ties for half-up styles.

Heat or No Heat?

Yes, less heat on your hair will in the long run make your hair healthier. I love heat on my hair so I'm going to share a few tips on how to maintain healthy hair while still putting heat on it.

  1. Heat protectant! I have used this heat protectant my whole career.
  1. Spend more time on your hair the very first time you put heat on it. The goal is to put as little heat as possible so if you are spending a few extra minutes to make sure your style lasts until your next wash, it will be worth it!

Start with these few tips and you will be on your way to some healthy hair!
